Congratulations on achieving our goal to try to show Fairways Club as a
Family friendly resort making it such a special place.
Christmas in Tenerife
Christmas is probably one of the best times to visit Tenerife.

Santa Cruz and several of the other smaller towns have special open-air concerts that are typical of the season. There is a Christmas concert performed by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and there is also an amazing Children’s games and activity Park known as PIT that takes up the whole of the interior of the International Congress Hall in Santa Cruz. This runs throughout the whole of the Christmas period.
There is even a small ice-skating rink that is installed in the city centre.
The New Year is also full of attractions, concerts, dances and firework displays.

The whole Christmas theme is topped off with the celebration of the Three Kings that is celebrated by a procession on the eve of the bank holiday on the 6th January. It is traditional for Spanish children to receive more presents on this day than on Christmas Day and let’s not forget that there are also a wide range of sweets and cakes that only appear during the festive season.
Community News
We spoke in the last newsletter regarding the fact that a team of divers would be replacing the missing mosaic tiles. This work has only just completed, and first impressions are is that the tiles seem to be holding in position.

We will no doubt lose some of the older tiles, but it will be a case of trying to manage the situation until the pool is completely refurbished in May 2019.

Fairways Club 2019 Pool works

Remember that the Fairways complex will be closed as a result of the works to the swimming pool and La Isla bridge during the whole of the month of May 2019.
Activities on site
This is usually one of the quieter times of the year, but there is still plenty going on with Pool, Table Tennis and Darts competitions. We also have Boule, Aqua Gym activities, stretching exercises and not forgetting the ever popular bingo competition.
CHRISTMAS IS COMING!
This month we have a host of exciting events at La Mesa. We have the Christmas Dinner, a Christmas Charity Market and to top it all off we have the New Year’s Eve party. The Christmas market will be taking place on Saturday 8th December and will be focussed on craft goods produced locally in the South of Tenerife. We will be serving mulled wine, minced pies and all things Christmassy.
Let’s hope we raise a lot of money for our chosen charities, and if you are at Fairways on the 8th, why not pop in and help the cause!

New Year’s Eve is now sold out, but we do have slots available for Christmas Dinner. If you are interested, please get in contact soon! www.lamesarestaurante.com
At La Isla, we are now serving Afternoon Tea! If you fancy an afternoon of cakes and cava, look no further. It is complete with gingham table clothes, three-tiered cake holders and enough tea to sink the Titanic!
Check out the Fairways Facebook page for more information.
Staff Profile
Aaron
Aaron joined the community team last month and has a combined role that includes the cleaning and maintenance of the swimming pool, and also pool security.

Born in Adeje but now residing in San Isidro, Aaron started his working life as a lifeguard at just 16 years of age. He also worked for a construction firm for two years before a stint as a lifeguard at Fairways seven years ago. He was with us for two years so some of you may remember him.

He returned to the construction industry for a short period and has also had a stint working in a supermarket before taking on a role at a hotel in pool maintenance. He then worked at a rent-a-car business before moving to his current position at Fairways.
Aaron has a daughter aged seven and has many hobbies that show a sense of adventure. He enjoys surfing, skateboarding, motorbiking, underwater fishing and downhill mountain biking.

We wish Aaron a warm welcome to the team.
Off the beaten track - Garachico
GARACHICO could well have been the most important town in Tenerife and was for some time its principal port. However, that all ended in 1706 when the port was destroyed completely by a volcanic eruption.

One of the unlikely benefits of the volcanic eruptions was the fact that the lava formed a number of rock pool formations, and this brings large numbers of visitors to the town, especially in the summer months. La plaza de la Libertad (Liberty Square) is also very popular and a place to while away the hours with a coffee or something stronger! It is one of the most picturesque plazas on the island of Tenerife. There are a number of fish restaurants that are well worth a visit, and if you decide to explore the ancient streets you will find monasteries and convents, colonial buildings and a number of historic peculiarities.

The most spectacular event is the “los fuegos del risco” that are celebrated every five years. The locals throw balls of fire from the cliffs in recognition of the course taken by the lava flows in 1706. The next fuego del risco is due in the year 2020.

Loro Parque
One of the most famous and best kept parks in the world, that just keeps getting better. There are fabulous shows that include parrots, sea lions, dolphins and the world-famous orcas. There is plenty for kids and adults alike, with Katandra Treetops, penguins, aquarium, gorillas and so much more. The park is regularly voted on Trip Advisor as one of the best parks in the world.
Mount Teide & Cable Card Ride
A visit to the highest mountain in Spain is a must when visiting Tenerife. There is a cable car service, and after that a path to the peak that rises to 3718 metres, although you will need to be in good physical condition to manage the walk. The national park itself offers a fascinating landscape, with many viewing points offering insights into the origins of the volcano and the island itself.
